Web Application Development
I have been building and designing web applications, using primarily Microsoft technology, since 2001. The majority of web applications that I have been a part of have used MS SQL Server as the database foundation. Over the years, most of my work resides on corporate intranets within industries such as state government, health insurance, finance and small business. I am able to architect your web concept into reality on each tier of development (database design, data access objects, business objects, common objects, and the user interface UI)....Read More...
Web Development UI Design
Making the presentation tier of your web application / website can be great fun. Working together, or delegated, if desired, we can inspire customer action and web traffic. In keeping the code current and concise as possible, I have embraced HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery more than ever before....especially as the mobile devices become more web friendly. Additional tools and libraries that I use to complete a nice UI include Fireworks [for the graphics], Mozilla's Fire Bug [to see and manipulate the HTML and styles and inspect AJAX calls], and sometimes Fiddler....Read More...
Database Development
Probably over 90% of my database experience is with MS SQL Server. Being mindful that the better designed a database be, the more stable, fast, efficient, scalable, and accurate the web application can be. Database development can be encapsulated into three generalized concepts, that when followed, increase the likelihood of a projects overall success in both being delivered on time and data accuracy. Defining the entities to a granular level, providing adjoining tables when if vague if a relationship will exist, and following best practices in regards to securing the data are the key core concepts that will increase the odds your web application will be a success....Read More...
DI / IOC - Dependency Injection, Inversion of Control
In an effort to become better at unit testing and test driven development in general, and like it more [the part of development I like the least], I have began over the last two years implementing dependency injection. After doing some research on the various inversion of control containers, I selected AutoFac....Read More...
jQuery Development
JQuery has been one of the greatest things to happen to web development. I greatly appreciate how, with jQuery, I am able to make the presentation tier more intuitive for the end user, efficient in loading content, and am able examine various jQuery plugins and sometimes extend them for the purposes needed within my projects at the time....Read More...
Service Oriented Architecture SOA
Over the years, I have developed and have contributed to projects that were built with service oriented architecture SOA in mind. It was an easier transition for me early on as I was used to calling the business logic layer BLL. Calling a different tier was not much different....Read More...
Entity framework EF
I have about 6 or 7 projects now that use the Entity Framework EF. I like using it. The one thing I've noticed though is how much more important it is to have a well designed database when using it since it maps itself after the database. Existing, legacy, databases with poor naming conventions and undefined relationships (where even the store procedures do not enforce referential integrity) seem even more ugly when using the EF.
Search Engine Optimization SEO
As we all try to learn every facet of the web that may help our customer's web presence stand out from the millions of other web sites on the web, I too have learned much over the years on the SEO topic. In the ever growing understanding of how search engines parse content, I have become a better developer. The SEO need has helped me provide to customer's a high search engine placement consistently. .Net MVC has made easier the ability to customize URLs and reduce the need for query strings. What that means to you is that your developer, in my opinion, has a greater likely hood of implementing a successful SEO strategy with .Net MVC, clean HTML5 and CSS3 (avoiding use of inline styles and being mindful of the content vs code ratio)....
